East Kilbride Rotary Club have two internal golf competitions. These are played for on an annual basis. The James Taylor Salver was presented to the Club in 1965 by the Rotarian James Taylor who was the professional golfer at East Kilbride Golf Course. The Rhu Trophy was gifted to the Club by Rotarian John Seargent who was a solicitor in the town.

prior toteeing off in the Coronation
Trophy.This competition, run
annually in parallel with the Willie Stott Shield, was organised by the 2008 winners, Oban Rotary Club, and twelve
teams from all over District 1230 participated.
Played in breezy and, at times, damp conditions East Kilbride A (George and Jim) were partnered by a pair from Oban, and East Kilbride B (David and Archie) by a Paisley pair. Both the teams played in the Willie Stott Shield which was won with a best ball score of 61 by Renfrew Rotary Club; East Kilbride A finishing third with 64.
However in the principal competition, the Coronation Trophy, the combined East Kilbride teams fared better and finished runners up with a joint score of 132, two shots behind the winners Clydebank Rotary Club.
Although no silverware was lifted, Jim Moretti picked up a prize for nearest the pin at the seventh hole - this followed a similar success at Bothwell Castle in the 2008 competition.
The prizes were presented by District 1230 Governor, Catherine Stewart, who thanked Oban Rotary Club for their organisation of the competition and all the teams for participating in what had been an excellent day of sporting fellowship.
Nine members played in the Jimmy Taylor Salver Golf Competition held at East Kilbride Golf Club on the 1st of July 2009 the competition was won by George Gunn with a score of 37 followed by Liam Donnelly with a 34 and in third place George McGraw last years winner with a score of 30. The 2009 Rhu Trophy was played for in October when everyone was a winner!!! - mainly because at the end of the day we only had four competitors!
David Brown won with 38 points, narrowly from Liam who had the same number of points, I was third, narrowly beating George Gunn. the day was finished off by a nice meal and presentation to the winner by President Ray Porrelli
PANIC AT THE FRONT LINE ….. IN PERTH!
Like many of the First World War soldiers they were all volunteers, and similarly nobody told them about the conditions they would encounter when they arrived.
Four such volunteer members, Jim Anderson, Jack Blackwood, George McGraw and Jim Moretti set off at 6.15am for the Rotary Bonspiel at Perth Ice Rink all set to go into action at 8.00am only to discover on arrival that this would not now happen until 10.45am.
Consternation in the ranks ensued and Jim Anderson, the Recruiting Officer, was despatched to urgently sort out the campaign timetable.
Much to his great relief he managed to negotiate a revised schedule, and the first game against Kirriemuir 1 started at 8.30am. This was a close fought encounter with EK losing by one shot. After a short break to refresh the team spirit, and purchase some prize liquor, it was back into action against Dunfermline and this time the EK team prevailed by a margin of two shots. Another break for lunch did not stop the momentum gained, and in the first match of the afternoon campaign EK gained some revenge by beating Kirriemuir 2 by three shots. This was followed by a real cut and thrust game with Perth St. Johns which was decided with the last stone of the last end, when the Perth team secured a one shot victory.
Overall the positive three shot margin was insufficient to win any of the star prizes and the EK team had to settle for a bottle of wine, a jar of honey, a pair of boxer shorts and a beanie hat!
The day concluded with an excellent meal, including scones and cream cakes. This amply sustained the team for the journey home at the end a long day, during which they had enjoyed the company of some of the other twenty Rotary teams participating, and renewed acquaintanceships with colleagues from previous Canadian curling tours.

The expression used by one of the East Kilbride Curling team was "Humped" when they described the clubs victory over Bothwell Rotary club in their most recent curling match where they had a resounding victory of eight shots to two against. East Kilbride side were represented by Ray Porrelli, Jim Moretti, Barry Wood and George McGraw the person who used the expression "Humped" will remain Anonymous
In a recent Curling match East KilbrideR.C. played against Hamilton R.C. although we only had a 3 man team namely George McGraw, Jack Blackwood, Barry Wood East Kilbride had a great victory 10 shots to 2

Continuing their curling success East Kilbride players George McGraw, Barry Wood, Ray Porrelli and Jim Anderson played well to defeat Glasgow Rotary Club first team by 9 shots to 3 this puts East Kilbride Rotary Club to the top of the District league
Yet Another Curling Victory
East Kilbride Rotary Club Curlers continue their recent success with another resounding win over Glasgow No.2 team this time unfortunately they only had three players namely Jim Anderson Barry Wood & George McGraw the final result ended 9 to 5 in East Kilbride's favour

Club Curlers go marching on East Kilbride Rotary Club Curlers prowess on the ice still continues with an unbeaten record in their District Curling league, after another fine 9-3 victory against Helensburgh & Garelochhead the East Kilbride team was Jack Blackwood, George McGraw, Jim Moretti and Ray Porrelli.

East Kilbride Curlers continue their undefeated record id the Rotary District league when Rotarians, Jim Moretti, Jack Blackwood, Barry Wood and Ray Porrelli defeated Paisley Rotary Club by 16 Shots to 5. This puts the club in a strong position in their league with only two games remaining

By defeating Lanark 6 shots to 4 East Kilbride Rotary Club Curlers Barry Wood, Ray Porrelli, Jim Moretti and Jack Blackwood ensured a place in the Semi Finals of the Gartside trophy

Into the Semi Final Play off after another cuirling win for the club with a 9 shots to 4 against Motherwell/Wishaw R.C East Kilbride Rotarians Jim Moretti, Ray Porrelli, Barry Wood and Jack Blackwood

This was enough to see East Kilbride Rotary Club become winners of the Garside Trophy final in which EK beat Eastwood Rotary Club 8-6 in what was a close game.
The scores were level 4-4 after four ends. East Kilbride then scored a single and a three to go 8-4 ahead. Despite losing a two at the last end EK were in control of the end, Pictures record the evenings proceedings
